Date of Operation:

Name of Doctors/Sergeon:

Asst Prof Dr Abdullah Al Masud

Case Study:

This patient having road traffic accident, then gradually his mouth opening was restricted. He came to me when his mouth opening was only 5mm and he could not take food properly. In ct scan it is clearly visible that his left condyle is totally fused with the skull bone and the joint space is already obliterated, but right temporomandibular joint space although reduced but still have some gap. In palpation some mobility present on the right joint and no mobility on left joint. In this case I have performed left sided interpositional arthroplasty and I have used 5th costocondral graft. Now his oral opening is about 50mmm and uniform growth of his face is visible. In followup opg-xray shows normal temporomandibular jiont structure.

Progress Step by Step:

Formation of new temporomandibuler joint which is clearly visible in this x-ray film.

This picture illustrate homogenous facial growth.

Maximum oral opening 50mm, now he can take all kinds of food with his new joint.

Recommendation:

After any facial trauma oral opening should check regularly. If jaw restriction develops then treatment should start as early as possible. Proper treatment can cure jaw deformity.
